Gone – Michael Grant

GoneA while ago a friend recommended this book to me, and whilst on holiday I eventually got around to reading it – so glad I did!

The blurb made the book sound really exciting and interesting – I couldn’t wait to start reading it!

Gone is the first book in a series which I am very excited to continue. (Hunger, Lies & Plague)

The book kick starts with the disappearance of all those older than 15 in the small town of Perdido Beach, California.

The book then follows the lives of the children left behind, the problems they face and the struggle for power between them.

Main characters are Sam Temple, Quinn Gaith, Astrid Ellison and Edilio. All are 14 year olds living in the town and being the eldest in the town – they feel a lot of responsibility.

As the town descends into chaos, several youngsters try to restore order with varying impacts and consequences.

I was really impressed with this book and the characters it contained. The plot reminded of “The Enemy” by Charlie Higson (which was published after Gone).

This book has everything you could want in a book and something for everyone, including… mystery, tension, suspense, romance, action and supernatural sci-fi.

I would recommend this book to all teenagers, as due to some violent and cruel scenes it wouldn’t be suitable for younger readers.
